2024 Spring Summit

On May 14th, hosted its annual Spring Summit event, convening industry experts, regional leaders, and key stakeholders to discuss key developments related to the San Francisco Bay region. The 2024 Summit theme was “Building Resilience: Financial Strategies for a Changing Bay Area.”

The event kicked off with an exceptional keynote address from Libby Schaaf, California State Treasurer candidate and former Mayor of Oakland. Following the opening remarking, the program dived into three segments:

Navigating the Current Funding Landscape
The first segment of the day featured an overview of existing funding resources and best practices to secure funds in the competitive landscape. With the insights of industry experts, this segment provided valuable information on the complex terrain of grant funding, providing actionable strategies and insider perspectives to enhance project success.

Showcasing Regional Projects
The second segment of the day highlighted the adaptation approaches and funding mechanisms employed in the region. With the perspectives of the Port of San Francisco and OneShoreline, the segment’s panelists shared their insights on the region’s resilience goals and coordination efforts.

Advancing Adaptation – Regional Finance and Coordination Strategies
The third segment of the day featured agency, government, insurance, and NGO leaders to discuss how the region can raise the estimated $110 billion needed by 2050 to prevent major flooding in the Bay Area. With the key perspectives represented, the discussion explored the challenges and goals for the region to fund and coordinate multi-benefit, equitable resilience across the nine Bay Area counties.

After three engaging discussions, Zach Wasserman, Chair of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, provided the closing perspective. His remarks effectively summarized the key actionable items and takeaways, bringing the program to a thoughtful conclusion.
