BPC welcomes new member San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA). WETA is a regional public transit agency charged by the California Legislature to provide and expand public ferry service in the Bay Area and to coordinate the water transit response to regional emergencies. WETA’s public transit service is branded as San Francisco Bay Ferry, which operates routes serving the communities of Alameda, Harbor Bay, Mare Island, Oakland, Richmond, Vallejo, San Francisco and South San Francisco.

San Francisco Bay Ferry’s ridership has risen dramatically in recent years, as ridership doubled since 2012, up to nearly 3 million passengers last year. With the availability of new Regional Measure 3 funds, WETA is planning future growth to add service on existing routes and serve new locations around the bay. WETA is governed by a 5-member Board of Directors appointed by the Governor and Legislature, and WETA staff is committed to working with stakeholders to establish new routes and improve existing ferry service.
