Anja Verce, Environmental Engineer at Weiss Associates, will present “Making the Case for Monitored Natural Attenuation at a High Profile VOC CERCLA Site in California” at Battelle’s Ninth International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds to be held in Monterey, California on May 19-22, 2014.

Anja’s platform presentation, co-authored by Mary Stallard, PG, CHG, of Weiss Associates, describes how Weiss demonstrated ongoing monitored natural attenuation (MNA) at a site where significant contaminant mass was removed previously with enhanced reductive dechlorination (ERD) via bioremediation. To verify the efficacy of MNA at this site, Weiss analyzed concentration trends of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), compared current and historical contours of VOC concentrations, and calculated mass flux and discharge over time at the site boundary. In addition, we confirmed with indoor air sampling that no vapor intrusion risk exists for VOCs and methane.
