APP People: Krehbiel begins tenure at Port of Longview as permanent CEO
|
Krehbiel served as Interim CEO since January
 Earlier this month, the Port of Longview, Washington Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed Norm Krehbiel to lead the Port of Longview as Chief Executive Officer. Krehbiel has served as the Interim CEO since January.
“While serving as Interim CEO, it was apparent that he was the clear choice to lead the Port of Longview into the future,” said Commission President and APP Regional Representative Bob Bagaason. “Norm is well-respected by the staff and the community at large, and we are delighted he will lead the Port as our official CEO.”
Krehbiel joined the Port in 1993 as the Director of Facilities and Engineering, managing the construction and maintenance of nearly 850 acres of infrastructure and property development. In 2008, he was appointed Deputy Executive Director and later Chief Operating Officer before being named Interim CEO this year.
“This is an exciting step in my career and I thank the Board of Commissioners for their confidence in my ability to lead our organization,” stated Krehbiel. “I am honored to be leading a team that is so strongly committed to the success of our Port and our community.”
Krehbiel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University. He is active in many industry industry-related organizations and serves on the local Public Facilities District Board. He resides in Longview with his wife Denise.

Partner David Bender, a partner in the Litigation Practice Group in the Orange County office, recently gave a presentation on insurance recovery at the APP 103rd Annual Conference. His practice focuses on recovering his clients losses from their insurance companies and third parties who contributed to the loss and/or the third parties insurance companies. David has recovered losses sustained by his clients as a result of environmental contamination, property damage and business interruption, embezzlement, employment claims, construction defect and class actions. In addition to ports, his clients include hospitality companies, manufacturers, transportation companies, colleges and universities, hospitals, tax exempt entities, municipalities, airports and Affordable Housing Authorities.

APP People: Long Beach announces interim CEO
|
Duane Kenagy announced as interim CEO after John Slangerup’s resignation
The Port of Long Beach, California Board of Harbor Commissioners announced last week the appointment of Duane Kenagy, P.E. as the Port of Long Beach’s Interim Chief Executive Officer. The Port will search for a permanent leader in the wake of Jon Slangerup’s surprise resignation earlier this month. 
Kenagy has most recently served as the Port’s Capital Programs Executive, overseeing nearly $4.5 billion in construction and improvement projects, the largest infrastructure investment of any port in the nation.
“The Board is extremely pleased to have Duane Kenagy serve as our Interim CEO. He is highly respected by all of the Commissioners, very well regarded in our industry, and well-liked by the Port staff. Duane will lead the Port of Long Beach on a steady path forward as the search begins for a permanent Chief Executive,” said Lori Ann Guzmán, President of the Board of Harbor Commissioners.
Kenagy joined the Port in 2014 and has more than 35 years of engineering and design project management experience in the U.S. and overseas. He oversees the replacement of the aging Gerald Desmond Bridge and the redevelopment of the Middle Harbor Container Terminal, each budgeted at nearly $1.5 billion. Another $1 billion is budgeted for rail improvements to increase the movement of goods via rail. Prior to joining the Port, Kenagy worked for APP Associate Member Moffatt & Nichol, a premier engineering consulting firm operating in 35 offices in 7 countries, and was a key player in the Alameda Corridor rail project.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Board of Harbor Commissioners, our tenants and customers, and the talented team here at the Port of Long Beach to continue our strong tradition of service and innovation,” Kenagy stated. “I am fully committed to helping this great organization transition to the new Chief Executive at the conclusion of the Board’s search.”
Kenagy and the Commission stated he would not be a candidate for permanent appointment as Chief Executive.
On Sept. 8, Chief Executive Officer Jon Slangerup, announced he is leaving the Port to become Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of an aviation technology company based in Canada. Slangerup led the Port through significant congestion challenges to record-setting cargo numbers and brought several innovative initiatives and projects to Long Beach.
“Jon Slangerup leaves behind a legacy that has positioned us very well for the future,” said Guzmán. “The Commission is confident that Duane Kenagy will continue to lead the Port on a trajectory of excellence moving forward.”
The Board of Harbor Commissioners, whose members are appointed by the Mayor of Long Beach and confirmed by the City Council, is responsible for setting policy for the Port and managing the Harbor Department.
