Report: Aligning California’s tax system with today’s economy

Thousands of civic leaders have been involved in the California Economic Summit, and a consistent theme is California needs more and smarter investments in human and physical capital if we are going to restore the middle class, compete globally and grow sustainably.

 

With more than a dozen tax proposals moving ahead this year, Californians have a rare opportunity to advocate for a better revenue system—one that fairly, adequately, and efficiently supports our highest priorities, from education to the state’s deteriorating infrastructure.

 

In a new report, “From revenue to results: Considering today’s tax proposals,” CA Fwd aims to broaden this pivotal conversation, encouraging Californians to look beyond how much money each measure would raise and who would pay—and to consider the proposals’ combined fiscal, governance, and policy impacts, as well.

Hundreds gathered in San Francisco recently for the 2015 “Growing the Impact Economy Summit” where problem solvers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors came together to tackle California’s intractable social and environmental problems. Summit: Employers want, need bigger role in workforce training

 

For California to develop the workforce necessary to remain globally competitive, employers must be given ways to play a larger role in the state’s workforce training system, the California Economic Summit emphasized in a letter to the task force charged with closing the skills gap through programs in the community college system.
