Project Update and Response Needed: Water Board MUN evaluation in Ag Dominated Water Bodies

State Water Resources Control Board  This is a message from the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley (5).

This notification pertains to the “Evaluation of the Municipal and Domestic Supply (MUN) Beneficial Use in Ag Dominated Surface Water Bodies” basin planning effort.

Both MUN Basin Plan Amendments were on the agenda at the last Central Valley Water Board Meeting (April 16/17 in Fresno). Below is a brief update:

Basin Plan Amendment to Remove MUN from 12 Sacramento River Basin Water Bodies

The Central Valley Water Board voted to adopt the Basin Plan Amendment on April 16, 2015– see Resolution R5-2015-0022. The next step in the Basin Plan Amendment approval process is a hearing at the State Water Resources Control Board. The hearing date is not scheduled yet, but we will keep you updated.

  Region-wide MUN Evaluation Process

A public workshop was held during the Central Valley Water Board meeting on April 16, 2015. Central Valley Water Board staff delivered an update on the project and provided information on the preliminary basin plan amendment alternatives currently under consideration. The presentation is available on our website, along with other supporting documents. The Board members and the public provided comments and feedback at the conclusion of the presentation.

We would like to schedule the next stakeholder meeting in early June to provide an opportunity to discuss the feedback we obtained at the workshop, address project challenges, and discuss our next steps. The meeting will be located at the Central Valley Water Board’s Rancho Cordova office and will likely be a half-day meeting (with a webinar option).

If you can spare a few moments, please help us schedule the meeting by indicating your availability at the link below – it just takes a few clicks!
