Funding available for recycled water projects
|
Given the dire drought situation in California, the Governor and Legislature have adopted emergency legislation that accelerates allocation of certain components of Proposition 1 funding for safe drinking water and water recycling.
For fiscal year 2015-16 the Governor has proposed allocating $137 million in funds from Proposition 1 to water recycling and desalination projects, with the bulk of that money going to the State Water Board for recycling projects. This represents roughly 20% of the $725 million that was approved as part of Proposition 1. Both grant funding and a combination of new, low interest loans and State Revolving Fund loans are available.
The State Water Board Division of Financial Assistance (DFA) is hosting a series of workshops from April 14-21 to review the draft program guidelines. Draft guidelines can be viewed on the State Water Board website.
The availability of water bond funds and the high level of interest in recycled water as a reliable, drought-proof water supply represent a unique opportunity for CASA member agencies to pursue these important projects. We encourage you to take advantage of the workshops and reach out to the DFA as soon as possible in advance of the official application process.
