ACWA-Sponsored CEQA Bill Clears Assembly Appropriations, Headed to Assembly Floor

ACWA-sponsored AB 291 (Medina), a bill that would streamline current California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) noticing requirements for multi-county water projects, was approved by the Assembly Appropriations Committee Wednesday on the consent calendar. The bill will now be sent to the Assembly floor for a vote as early as next week.

Appellate Court Rules San Juan Capistrano’s 2010 Tiered Rates Violated Proposition 218

Three weeks after the governor ordered a mandatory 25% statewide reduction in water use and called for increased use of tiered rates to promote conservation, the Fourth District Court of Appeal Monday ruled that the City of San Juan Capistrano’s 2010 rate structure violated Proposition 218 because it was not based on the actual cost of service.

 

Valadao Offers Amendment to Energy and Water Appropriations Bill

Congressman David Valadao, on Wednesday, during a markup of the FY2016 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill by the House Appropriations Committee, offered an amendment to expedite the development of several water infrastructure projects in California.

State, Federal Agencies and Sacramento River Settlement Contractors Agree on Framework for Water Operations

Federal and state agencies this week reached agreement with Sacramento River Settlement Contractors on an integrated framework of actions for operations of the Central Valley Project and State Water Project during the next six months of drought.

State Board Releases Draft Emergency Regulation To Implement 25% Statewide Reduction in Urban Water Use

The State Water Resources Control Board released a draft emergency regulatory package April 18 for implementing the required 25% reduction in urban water use outlined in the April 1 executive order issued by Gov. Jerry Brown.

City of San Diego Public Utilities Department Wins 2015 U.S. Water Prize

The City of San Diego Public Utilities Department was awarded the annual U.S. Water Prize this week for its efforts relating to the Water Purification Demonstration Project.

April 29 Policy Summit to Explore Impacts of Illegal Marijuana Grows

A special policy summit at the State Capitol will explore the environmental impacts and public safety challenges arising from illegal marijuana cultivation in California. The event will be held April 29 in State Capitol Room 127 from 11:15 a.m. – 1 p.m.

DWR’s New Groundwater Update Report Intended to Support SGMA Implementation

The California Department of Water Resources announced Thursday it has completed a new groundwater report that provides“foundational” data and analyses on the state’s 515 groundwater basins and subbasins and is intended to support implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014.
