The major water supply shift underway in California is the subject of a new Union of Concerned Scientists fact sheet written by UCS climate scientist, Juliet Christian-Smith. The fact sheet takes a close look at the current impacts and future risks of climate change on the state’s water resources, including increased floods and droughts, and recommends how to plan for a different water future.
Samples needed: We have received a request for wastewater and biosolids samples on behalf of Dr. Kevin Gilmore of Bucknell for a Water Environment Foundation project. The project, which is also supported by Hazen and Sawyer and CH2M, is intended to determine whether it may be cost-effective to extract wastewater for rare earth elements. Please read this document for more information and contact Greg Kester if you’re interested in participating.
Worth repeating… The Department of Water Resources has $10 million in Proposition 1 funds immediately available to update or develop local ordinances and groundwater plans to facilitate basin-wide sustainable groundwater management. The application period for this grant opportunity closes December 8, 2015.
