Water Managers Advocate for Changes – or Rescission – of Emergency Conservation Regulation

Local water managers from throughout California testified before the State Water Resources Control Board today and advocated for increased local control of conservation efforts based on local supplies, and an easing – or rescission – of the state’s emergency conservation regulation due to improved drought conditions in some areas.

Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee Acts on Delta and Water Transfer Bills

The Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee Tuesday heard several water-related bills currently being tracked by ACWA: AB 1755 (Dodd) related to water transfers and AB 1713 (Eggman) and AB 2583 (Frazier) both related to fixing the Delta.

Water Flows to Friant Contractors

After two years of zero water allocations from the San Joaquin River, water is flowing to the Central Valley Project’s Friant Division eastside contractors due to releases from Millerton Lake to make room for spring snowmelt.

The water is a welcome sight to growers and water managers seeking to irrigate crops and recharge groundwater basins.

“Any water made available to us… adds up to a good thing for our growers and our region,” said Gary Serrato, general manager of Fresno Irrigation District.

Multi-Agency New Melones Plan Benefits Farmers, Fish

A water resource management plan for New Melones and the Stanislaus River crafted by federal, state and local water officials is expected to benefit local water districts, river conditions and salmon migration throughout 2016.

Emergency Conservation Mandate No Longer Warranted, ACWA Says in Comment Letter

Citing significantly improved water supply conditions, ACWA is recommending that the State Water Resources Control Board rescind its emergency conservation regulation in favor of continued voluntary water use reductions statewide.

California Natural Resources Secretary John Laird will speak at the Southern California Water Committee’s Quarterly Luncheon.
