Fueling Innovation in Richmond
Many residents may not know that Chevron operates a world-class research campus, adjacent to the refinery, right here in Richmond. The 1.2-million-square-foot Richmond Technology Center (RTC) draws employees from around the world to help develop newer, cleaner and more efficient transportation products and alternative and renewable fuels, including biofuels and solar, wind and geothermal power. A History of Innovation at Chevron
Chevron in Richmond has fueled energy innovation for more than 100 years. This month’s newsletter includes a timeline that illustrates some major milestones and noteworthy discoveries made in Richmond. From the completion of the Richmond Refinery in 1902 to the successful conversion of mustard seeds into bio jet fuel at the Richmond Technology Center in 2014, Chevron in Richmond has been at the forefront of innovation. An important part of the work that we do at the Richmond Technology Center is focused on developing cleaner burning fuels and high-performance base oils that are used in car, truck and marine engines, manufacturing operations and the food industry. Meet Our Employees
This month we are happy to introduce Peter Fuentes-Afflick, who works as a Senior Staff Engineer at the Richmond Technology Center. Peter is part of a team of scientists working on Techron, Chevron’s revolutionary fuel additive that helps our gasoline products minimize deposits, maximize fuel economy and keep engines clean and exhaust emissions low.
