The City of Richmond has  released the final draft of the Modernization Project’s final Environmental Impact Report (EIR), which is available at chevronmodernization.com.

The publication of the EIR marks a significant step closer to a newer, safer, cleaner refinery. It also reinforces the project’s many benefits for this community and our workforce. The Modernization Project will reduce pollution overall, make the refinery safer and create job opportunities for local residents.

The response from the community continues to be very positive. Public support for the project is strong with more than 70% of Richmond residents favoring modernization in a recent public opinion survey. And, the City Council has also taken two important steps that reflect the positive momentum building for modernization.

Last week, the Richmond City Council passed a resolution calling on the Planning Commission to take timely action on the modernization project.  This is a positive step demonstrating that the City Council shares our desire to see this project move forward.

Also last week, the City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that would enable important projects like modernization to be considered in a timely and consistent manner. This action would put Richmond in line with other Bay Area cities that require timely action on important civic projects.

The City is expected to make a final decision on the project this summer and, until then, there will be plenty more opportunities to learn about our efforts to create a newer, safer, cleaner refinery. Visit RichmondProud.com for a project overview or to voice your support.
