The House Republican Caucus voted Wednesday to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) House Majority Leader. Rep. McCarthy was running to replace the previous Majority Leader, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), who was defeated in a Republican Primary last week. McCarthy had previously served as House Majority Whip.
The elevation of McCarthy to the Majority Leader post means that California members are well represented in both parties’ House leadership delegations; Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA-12) continues to serve as House Minority Leader.
