The application of information technology (IT) across the economy is transforming entire industries. This convergence of IT with other sectors is generating new efficiencies in conventional sectors and creating new products, services and business models.
The digitization of the economy is being witnessed in health in the monitoring and delivery of care and the development of new gene-based therapeutics. The energy sector is undergoing a revolution with the deployment of smart grid technology and distributed generation systems. Retail is transforming as virtual reality becomes part of the online shopping experience.
Finally, digitization is generating new data about business processes, our environment and our personal lives. This vast new resource is readily being commoditized, and with this, cyber security tools and services are in rapidly growing demand.
How are existing industries transforming, and what new business models are emerging?
