As Congress prepares to break for summer recess, it is important that all BPC Members be apprised of what you can do to assist in securing federal funding for the important issues that we face.

BPC staff continue to monitor the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s effort to renew the Water Resources Development Act or WRDA.  Committee Chair Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Ranking Democrat Nick Rahall (D-WV) continue to affirm their priority for this bill.  Additionally, Representative John Garamendi from our region sits on the committee and he has been a vocal proponent to renew WRDA.   In discussion with committee staff, we understand that the actual markup of a still to be released bill is delayed until September at the earliest when Congress returns to work after Labor Day.   Given the uncertainty surrounding the timing of the markup, we encourage BPC members to use the month of August to contact their congressional Representatives to discuss any program needs and priorities for funding assistance.  This opportunity to speak with your Member(s) of Congress will allow you to present any concerns during the summer recess when they are back in California.
