TOURING WETLAND RESTORATION PROJECTS in the SOUTH BAY

On May 30 members of the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority, State and Federal representatives staff, and other JV partners spent a day out in the field, touring wetland restoration projects in the South Bay.  John Krause (Associate Biologist with the Department of Fish and Wildlife) showed the group first hand the difference between tidal wetlands and managed ponds at Eden Landing, while Eric Mruz (Refuge Manager at Don Edwards US Fish and Wildlife Service) and John Bourgeois (Executive Project Manager for the South Bay Salt Pond Project) gave an overview of progress being made in the Alviso ponds. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Wetland Program Development Grants
This competitive grant program is for funding projects that build wetland protection programs for States, Tribes and Territories. More

 

Deadline 2013-06-28:

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program NOTE: All applications will need to be submitted by a state agency partner, and potential applicants should also contact the SFBJV to let them know of their intent and for JV assistance. The announcement of availability and request for applications for the FY 2014 National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program is posted on Grants.gov (CFDA 15.614). 

Partial Timeline:

*Now-May 2013 – Work with Coastal Program Local Managers, and with Bart Prose and Samantha Marcum, to design project and develop your application

*May 18 – Optional (but encouraged) Pre-applications “due” for early review by FWS Regional Office (RO) – email to Bart and Samantha
*June 8 – RO will return pre-applications with comments and suggestions no later than this date
*June 26 – Begin to submit applications online
*June 28 – Official applications due to grants.gov by 8:59 PST

Deadline 2013-07-15:

California Ocean Protection Council Local Coastal Program Sea-Level Rise Adaptation Grant

The Ocean Protection Council, California Coastal Commission and State Coastal Conservancy has announced the availability of grants to encourage local governments and other entities responsible for planning under the California Coastal Act to develop and adopt updated plans that conserve and protect coastal resources from future impacts from sea-level rise and related climate change impacts such as extreme weather events.

Note: this is only applicable to Coastal Act planning jurisdictions, so outside the golden gate. SCC will be releasing a more general climate change grant opportunity in a few weeks. More

 

Deadline 2013-07-19:

State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), in cooperation with Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Priority Conservation Area Grant Program

The State Coastal Conservancy (SCC), in cooperation with Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), has released a call for proposals focused on the Priority Conservation Areas (PCAs) in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco Counties. The call for proposals is available at http://scc.ca.gov/2013/05/03/pcagrants/.  Letters of Interest will be due from eligible applicants July 19, 2013. MTC has made $5 million of federal funds available which will be combined  with additional funding provided by SCC.

Two public workshops will be held to provide prospective applicants with an overview of the Plan Bay Area PCA Grant Program and answer questions. California Wildlife Conservation Board (WCB) 

WCB continues to provide funding for wetland, riparian, oak woodland, and other fish and wildlife habitat improvement projects and land acquisition (easement and fee title) from Propositions 40, 50, and 117. The WCB’s Riparian, Inland Wetlands, and Oak Woodland programs continue, and are continuously open for proposal submission. for inquiries contact  (916) 445-8448.

 

Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program   The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish & Wildlife Program in the San Francisco Bay Area invites ongoing requests for assistance for voluntary habitat restoration projects primarily, but not limited to, the North Bay and East Bay counties. Eligible applicants include individual landowners, for-profit and non-profit organizations, watershed groups, and local agencies. Projects must be on lands not under state or federal ownership. Emphasis is given to on-the-ground activities that improve habitat for Federal trust species, such as migratory birds and special status animal and plant species. Maximum funding request is $25,000 per project with a minimum 1:1 non-federal match (monetary and/or in-kind match). Partnerships with other funding agencies are encouraged. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Coastal Program at San Francisco Bay  The program’s focus is on the San Mateo and Marin Counties’ outer Coast and is also available to projects in watersheds draining into San Francisco Bay. The mission of the Coastal Program at San Francisco Bay is to conserve coastal ecosystems by engaging external partners and other Service programs in activities that restore, enhance and protect fish and wildlife habitats and habitat forming processes. Funding Available: about $100,000 to $200,000 annually. There is no rigid application format or deadline to apply. However, our money is available on a Federal fiscal year basis (October 1 to September 30), and we encourage you to contact us as early as possible so that we can explore potential partnership opportunities for your project. We would like to hear from you starting in January each year, cooperative agreements for each year are generally finalized by June.   More
