SATURDAY

Saturday began with the Department of Water Resources press release announcing a mixed forecast for the next water year, the Santa Cruz Sentinel continued its special coverage of desalination and Santa Cruz, you can watch Phil Isenberg, Nancy Vogel and John Herrick in this episode of Capitol Weekly’s Politics on Tap, the Riverside Press-Enterprise ran a story on the  changes coming to the Department of Fish and Game, the Cal Watchdog blog says yes to desalination, and a UN expert says California’s law on the human right to water sets an example for others.

 

 

SUNDAY

On Sunday, the Mercury News topped the scroll with the story, Hetch Hetchy controversy: Could Yosemite’s second valley be restored? The Sacramento Bee ran a story about a Fish and Game proposal that would affect private California lake owners, and the Fresno Bee article asked River could spawn jobs but how many? The Contra Costa Times ran an article about today’s San Bernardino County hearing on the Cadiz project, while  the San Bernardino Sun ran a commentary about protecting Mojave desert water resources, and the Sacramento Bee ran an essay from artist/writer Stephanie Taylor, Along the aqueduct’s path, a desert bears fruit.

 

LAST WEEK’S TOP STORIES

Top news story was the Examiner’s El Nino update: Dry winter now possible in Southern California, followed by the Fresno Bee’s story, Desalination no panacea for California water woes and the Central Valley Business Times story, Delta Stewardship Council picks new executive. Top commentary was the commentary in the Vacaville Reporter, Solve the issue at the other end of the Delta, and top blog post goes to Alex Breitler’s Dueling documentaries.

 

WHAT’S ON THE CALENDAR FOR THE UPCOMING WEEK

On Monday and Tuesday, the State Water Board will continue with Phase 2 of the update of the Bay Delta Water Quality Control Plan with a 2-day workshop on Bay-Delta Fisheries Resources. On Wednesday, the State Water Board will meet. On Thursday, there’s a screening of Last Call at the Oasis in Burbank. And on Wednesday through Friday, the San Joaquin River Partnership will present the 2012 San Joaquin River Conference.

 

DESALINATION CONFERENCE ADDED TO THE CALENDAR

CalDesal will host the 1st Annual Desalination Conference in Sacramento on October 25 & 26 and in Irvine on October 29 & 30. Visit http://www.caldesal.org for more information.
