Save Our Water Seeking Local Feedback for Summer Campaign

Save Our Water hosted a partner webinar Wednesday to discuss its summer campaign plans and solicit feedback from across the state. Save Our Water also will send a detailed survey to water agencies in the next week to collect additional feedback to ensure the program meets local water agency needs.

Analysis of CA WaterFix Submitted to State Water Board

In preparation for an upcoming hearing before the State Water Resources Control Board, the California Department of Water Resources and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on Tuesday submitted detailed testimony on the potential impacts of the California WaterFix project.

CA WaterFix seeks to strengthen the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta by adding new points of diversion to the State Water Project, which is operated by DWR. CA WaterFix’s operations are coordinated with operation of the Central Valley Project, run by the Bureau.

ACWA Accepting Members’ Legislative Proposals for Consideration

The ACWA State Relations Department is now requesting legislative proposals from member agencies for the first year of the 2017-‘18 legislative session. The State Legislative Committee will review final legislative proposals at its upcoming annual planning meeting on Oct. 21 in Sacramento.

EPA Issues Advisories on Two Chemical Contaminants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today issued nationwide drinking water health advisories on two chemical contaminants previously used in carpets, clothing, furniture fabrics and other materials.

The health advisories and supporting documents for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) are based on the latest available science and are intended to help local water systems and state regulatory agencies take appropriate steps if needed.

Water Market Bills Update: AB 1755 Passed on Assembly Floor, AB 2304 Withdrawn from Committee

Water market legislation AB 1755, authored by Assembly Member Bill Dodd (D-Napa), was passed by the Assembly on May 31. The bill now goes to the Senate.

AB 1755, as amended on May 11, would require the California Department of Water Resources to create a statewide integrated water data platform that would bring together existing water and ecological information from multiple databases and provide data on completed water transfers and exchanges.

New Resource Available for Water Reuse Communications

ACWA has released a new list of terms recommended for use in communicating about water reuse titled “Water Reuse Terminology.” The document was released June 1 in partnership with the California WateReuse Association and the California Association of Sanitation Agencies.

Nominate a Volunteer for Fly Fisherman’s 2017 “Conservationist of the Year” Award

Fly Fisherman Magazine is now accepting nominations for its Conservationist of the Year Award. The 2017 award will recognize an individual whose volunteer work has significantly impacted the protection or enhancement of important fisheries habitat in the previous year.

State’s Drinking Water Program Deemed Back in Compliance

The State Water Resources Control Board Thursday announced it has successfully completed a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency corrective action plan to bring the state’s Drinking Water Program and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund back into compliance with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act.

UMRWA and USFS Sign New Agreement to Protect Mokelumne River Watershed

The Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority and the U.S. Forest Service on May 18 signed a new collaborative agreement intended to reduce wildfire risk through forest thinning, protect water quality and improve water yield within the Mokelumne River Watershed.

The 10-year agreement was signed by Randy Moore, USFS Pacific Southwest regional forester and Terry Woodrow, vice chair of UMRWA and Alpine County supervisor. According to Moore, the USFS plans to double the amount of forest restoration in California, from 240,000 acres a year to 500,000 acres a year.
