The Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority and the U.S. Forest Service on May 18 signed a new collaborative agreement intended to reduce wildfire risk through forest thinning, protect water quality and improve water yield within the Mokelumne River Watershed.
The 10-year agreement was signed by Randy Moore, USFS Pacific Southwest regional forester and Terry Woodrow, vice chair of UMRWA and Alpine County supervisor. According to Moore, the USFS plans to double the amount of forest restoration in California, from 240,000 acres a year to 500,000 acres a year.
