California’s Ongoing Drought Major Topic at ACWA DC Conference

California’s fourth year of drought is a major focus of discussion this week at ACWA’s annual D.C. conference currently underway in the nation’s capital.

Over 100 ACWA members are gathered at The Liaison Hotel in Washington, D.C. for the conference, which features two days of talks by national, state and local leaders. The conference kicked off Tuesday with a congressional reception co-sponsored by ACWA and the California Association of Sanitation Agencies.

ACWA-Sponsored CEQA Notification Bill Introduced in Assembly

ACWA is co-sponsoring a bill that would streamline the notification process for certain water projects subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

ACWA-Sponsored Bill on Chromium-6 Compliance Introduced

Sen. Ben Hueso (D-San Diego) on Wednesday introduced SB 385 – an ACWA-sponsored bill to provide a carefully monitored process for public water systems to work toward compliance with the state’s new drinking water standard for chromium-6.

Water Commission Launches Survey on Potential Storage Projects Eligible for Prop. 1 Bond Funds

As the California Water Commission gears up to develop a process to allocate Proposition 1 bond funds for storage projects, it has launched an initial scoping survey to collect information about potential water storage projects from project proponents that may request bond funding.

San Diego County Reduces Water Use by 28% in January

Despite continued high temperatures in the San Diego region, the San Diego County Water Authority reported Thursday that county water use dropped by 28% for January as compared to January 2014 numbers. In December, the district also reduced its water usage by 29% over the previous year’s figures for that month.

According to the district, January’s reduction translates to a savings of 12,000 acre-feet of water, or enough to serve about 24,000 typical four-person households for a year.

Stanford Report Supports Water Usage Fee

A newly released report from Stanford University’s Water in the West program recommends a fee on Californians’ water usage to help pay for water infrastructure and management.

The report is titled “Funding Water Projects in Times of Financial Uncertainty: The Case for a Public Goods Charge in California.”

ACWA Requests Proposals for Translation Services

ACWA is requesting proposals for a translation services provider to assist its member agencies with their language translation needs.

Proposals for translation services must be received by 4 p.m. Friday, April 20.
