On December 14, BPC staff attended the Port of Oakland (the Port) Board of Commissioners Meeting and provided comment on the Port’s efforts to update their Maritime Air Quality Improvement Plan (MAQIP), a comprehensive plan designed to reduce port emissions and mitigate impacts on local air quality.
BPC recognizes that the Port has taken tremendous strides in reducing emissions of Diesel Particulate Matter and greenhouse gases thus far, and believes that the Port has well demonstrated its commitment to improving air quality. BPC fully supports the Port’s ongoing efforts pertaining to the MAQIP, and commends the plan’s dual focus on protecting local public health and gearing up against climate change. We look forward to offering additional support during the planning process to promote feasible, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions.
