APP’s 104th Annual Conference sailed into Pago Pago with informative presentations and tours of port facilities, plentiful networking events for colleagues to catch up and see what’s happening at Pacific ports, and numerous opportunities to experience the amazing culture and hospitality of American Samoa.
Together, we built “Partnerships Throughout the Pacific.”
Department of Port Administration, American Samoa Government, did an amazing job to make attendees feel welcome.

- Matson South Pacific General Manager Greg Chu and Hamburg Süd Group Area Representative Isabel Hudson discussed Pacific shipping operations and trends.
- Miller Nash Graham & Dunn Partner Richard Mitchell discussed putting the “public” back in ports by educating attendees on the latest Pacific port litigation examples.
- Port Authority Tonga CEO Mosese Lavemai gave an overview of Tonga’s unique port and location.
- American Samoa EPA Research Scientist Mia Comeros discussed the ongoing problem of marine debris and how government, private industry, and the public are working together to solve it.
- Liebherr Port Equipment Sales Manager Rory McBride gave real-world examples of how thinking outside the box can ultimately empower ports by creating new business opportunities or finding customized solutions to challenges.
- US Coast Guard Lieutenant Tanner Stiehl talked about how the Coast Guard is eager to work with ports and communities on keeping harbors safe, secure, and functional.
- University of Hawaii Business Professor Tusi Avegalio gave a presentation on how private industry, public ports, and higher education can work together on innovation to improve the quality of life for everyone.
- American Samoa Office of Disaster Management Petroleum Officer Sione Lotolua Lousiale Kava discussed the unique facilities, procedures, and partnerships that keep the fuel supply plentiful and costs reasonable for the unique island community of American Samoa.

Nanaimo Port Authority seeks new CEO
|
The Nanaimo Port Authority (NPA), an APP member located in British Columbia, Canada, is searching for a new CEO. The Board of Directors seeks a multi-faceted leader who will work collaboratively with key community stakeholders and partner groups in implementing a bold vision for the Port. Working closely with the Board, the CEO will help create and shape a new direction around marine operations, innovative business development opportunities, plus enhance cooperative leadership with user groups and community leaders related to this important economic asset in the region.

2017-18 APP Executive Committee elected at Annual Conference

During the recent 104th Annual Conference in American Samoa, the APP Board of Directors elected the 2017-18 APP Executive Committee beginning on August 1st.
Your 2017-18 APP President:
Elizabeth Blanchard, Commissioner, Port of Stockton, California USA
Dr. Blanchard has been involved with APP since 2008 when she was appointed as a port commissioner at the Port of Stockton. She began serving on APP’s Executive Committee in 2010. Liz is a retired Professor Emeritus of San Joaquin Delta College Psychology Department and the University of the Pacific School of Education. She is currently President of the Disabled American Veterans Charities of San Joaquin County. Dr. Blanchard also served eight years on Stockton City Planning Commission and two years on San Joaquin County Planning Commission.
