Listening Sessions Scheduled on Implementation of Governor’s Executive Order

Three state agencies, including the California Department of Water Resources, will host public listening sessions in coming weeks to receive input on the implementation of Gov. Jerry Brown’s recent executive order regarding long-term water conservation.

House Committee Approves Water Resources Development Act of 2016

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure approved the 2016 Water Resources and Development Act, HR 5303, unanimously by voice vote on May 25.  WRDA authorizes U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects at U.S. harbors, locks, dams, and reservoirs. It ensures the Corps can maintain the nation’s water infrastructure, continue to provide flood protection, and work on environmental restoration projects. The bill next goes to the House floor for a vote.

Governor Appoints Weinberg, Reappoints Fiorini to Delta Stewardship Council

Gov. Jerry Brown today announced the appointment of Ken Weinberg, and the reappointment of ACWA Past President Randy Fiorini, to the Delta Stewardship Council.

Weinberg, 58, of San Diego, has been an adjunct lecturer at California State University, San Marcos and principal and owner at Ken Weinberg Water Resources Consulting LLC since 2015. He served in several positions at the San Diego County Water Authority from 1991 to 2015, including director of water resources, water resources supervisor and water reclamation supervisor.

Court Upholds Delta Plan, Asks for Some Refinements

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Michael P. Kenny on Wednesday issued a ruling largely upholding the adequacy of the Delta Stewardship Council’s master plan for the Delta, but ordered the DSC to revise the Delta Plan to promote options for water conveyance and storage systems.

The ruling effectively cancels a court hearing on the issue that had been scheduled for later this month.

Lawn Dude Runs on Platform of “Conserve, Conserve, Conserve!”

The ubiquitous So Cal conservation icon Lawn Dude caught election fever this week and  launched a billboard campaign on a platform of “Conserve, Conserve, Conserve.”
