DWR Awards $6.7 Million in Grants to Launch Groundwater Plans

The California Department of Water Resources today announced it is awarding 21 counties a total of $6.7 million in Proposition 1 grants to help with sustainable groundwater planning.

Innovative California Water Agency Initiatives Highlighted at White House Water Summit

As part of the United Nations World Water Day aimed at raising awareness of water issues and building sustainable solutions through science and technology, the Obama Administration Tuesday hosted a special White House Water Summit including panel discussions and speakers from public and private sectors.

Several ACWA member agencies were among the nearly 200 water experts that attended the summit featuring innovative projects from California water agencies.

State Water Board Providing Information on Forming GSAs

The California State Water Resources Control Board is now providing information and guidelines for local agencies to use when deciding to become a Groundwater Sustainability Agency under the 2014 Groundwater Sustainable Management Act.

ACWA Members Urged to Complete Engine Use Survey as ARB Revises Emissions Standards

Fleet managers are encouraged to provide information on their fleets to the California Air Resources Board as it moves to revise its fleet average emissions standards for diesel particulate matter from portable engines.

March Storms Allow Increase in State Water Project Allocation to 45%

March storms have significantly boosted some of the state’s reservoir levels, prompting the California Department of Water Resources to increase estimated water delivery allocations from the State Water Project to 45%, DWR officials announced today.

By June 1, 2016, pursuant to Water Code Section 10733.2, DWR is required to adopt emergency regulations for evaluating and implementing GSPs and alternatives to GSPs to achieve the legislative intent of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (Water Code Section 10720.1). GSP emergency regulations will identify the elements specified in Water Code Sections 10727.2, 10727.4, and 10727.6, as well as other information that will assist groundwater sustainability agencies and local public agencies in planning for basin-wide sustainability.

CFCC agencies fund primarily the
following types of infrastructure
projects:

  • Drinking water
  • Water conservation
  • Wastewater Water use efficiency
  • Water quality Energy efficiency
  • Water supply Flood management

Some of the participating agencies also fund other types of
infrastructure projects including streets and highways, emergency
response vehicles, solid waste, and community facilities.

Southern California Water Committee Quarterly Luncheon

California Natural Resources Secretary John Laird will speak at the Southern California Water Committee’s Quarterly Luncheon. The event is sponsored and hosted by the Central Basin Municipal Water District, and will focus on the need for California WaterFix as well as CA Water Action Plan implementation.

The luncheon will at held at Central Basin’s offices at 6252 Telegraph Rd, Commerce, CA 90040. The cost is $70 per person.
