Cortopassi Revenue Bond Initiative Focus of Legislative Hearing

Dean Cortopassi’s “No Blank Checks” revenue bond initiative received a full airing at a legislative hearing today where detractors claimed it could create debilitating uncertainty in the financing of infrastructure projects and proponents claimed it would give voters a sense of increased accountability.

U.S. EPA Announces Enhanced Oversight of Lead and Copper Rule Implementation

Prompted by the water crisis in Flint, Mich., the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Feb. 29 announced plans to increase oversight of state drinking water programs tasked with implementing EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule (LCR).

Updated Guidelines for Preparing Public Health Goal Reports Now Available to ACWA Members

ACWA has developed new Suggested Guidelines for use by public water systems in preparing 2016 Public Health Goal (PHG) reports to satisfy requirements of California Health and Safety Code Section 116470(b). Every three years since 1998 when the requirement to submit the reports began, ACWA has prepared and distributed guidelines for preparing PHG reports to assist ACWA members.

Deadline Extended for Clair A. Hill Agency Award

El Niño Sputters, Snowpack Now at 83% of Normal

The El Niño winter that state officials hoped would help to mitigate California’s drought hasn’t lived up to its potential as evidenced by the latest snowpack survey which pegs snowpack statewide at 83% of normal for this time of year.

Aquatic Pesticide Discharge Permits to Be Reissued

Three of the four general National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits adopted by the State Water Resources Control Board for discharges associated with pesticide application are scheduled to be re-issued at the March 1 State Water Board meeting.

Statewide Urban Water Savings Dips Slightly, But State Still 96% of Way to Goal

Californians statewide are running just shy of Gov. Jerry Brown’s 25% urban water conservation mandate, with cumulative urban savings since June at 24.8% compared with 2013 usage levels. But overall, Californians are 96% of the way toward the state’s goal of saving 1.2 million acre-feet of water by the end of February, according to data released today by the State Water Resources Control Board.

ACWA Seeks Candidates to Fill Region 6 Board Vacancy

ACWA is seeking interested candidates to fill a vacancy on its Region 6 Board for the 2016-’17 term. The deadline to apply is March 18.

Members of the Region 6 Board determine the direction and focus of region issues and activities, support the fulfillment of ACWA’s goals and play an integral role in the leadership of the association as a whole.
