The Debut of BEGHU !

all images in this Bulletin taken from the update

The Baylands & Climate Change: What We Can Do (previously known by many as BEHGU) was officially debuted Sunday October 18 thanks to Bay Area environmental journalist Paul Rogers and his feature article in the San Jose Mercury News.    The science update offers a roadmap to secure the future of our SF Bay Shore in this time of rapid change we find ourselves in.  It tracks progress made since the seminal first report – the Baylands Ecosystem Habitat Goals – published in 1999, and provides a suite of recommendations, all of which must be followed, if we are to maintain these important ecosystems through time.  Some of the key findings include, in brief – it is time to work with nature, not against it; sediment is a precious resource; complete baylands systems must be restored from the hills to the Bay and now is the time to really get moving on it!   Visitwww.baylandsgoals.org to learn more about this visionary science update.  And listen in to KQED’s Forum Wednesday October 21 at 9:30 for an interview with lead author Letitia Grenier and Sam Schuchat, Executive Officer of the State Coastal Conservancy.  Then please help spread the news!  We have a “tweet sheet” to inspire your messages here.

Your Help Needed by October 26 to update Project List for the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority

The San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority is working towards a potential regional funding measure for the Bay in 2016 and the State Coastal Conservancy is reaching out to provide an update on progress toward placement of a funding measure on the ballot.  Your input is needed on a list of previously compiled wetland restoration projects that may potentially be eligible for Authority funding.   Please review the project list and let Amy Hutzel know if:

  • a project is no longer being planned or is no longer in need of funding;
  • the project name or description (or any other project details) needs to be updated;
  • or if there are additional projects that fit within the Authority’s enabling legislation and Draft Ballot Measure language please include the name of the project, a short project description, the county, lead organization, and a map of the project location.
