ACWA-Sponsored Bill on CEQA Noticing Set for April 13 Hearing

Support Letters Needed for Assembly Natural Resources Committee

The Assembly Natural Resources Committee has set an April 13 hearing on AB 291, legislation sponsored by ACWA and the McGeorge School of Law Legislative and Public Policy Clinic related to notice of determination filings for certain water projects.

Authored by Assembly Member Jose Medina (D-Riverside), AB 291 would streamline the filing of notices under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for local agencies implementing certain water projects by allowing agencies to post notices on the state’s CEQAnet website and with the county clerk in the local agency’s home county. The bill would require a local agency that exercises this option to file the notices with the state Office of Planning and Research (OPR). This would both simplify the process for local agencies to file such notices and improve public access to notices for many water projects by making them available statewide on CEQAnet for the first time.

ACWA and the McGeorge School of Law Legislative and Public Policy Clinic request that member agencies submit letters of support to the Assembly Natural Resources Committee.
