2015 Drought Briefing “Four Years and Counting” Set for April 9

ACWA in partnership with several organizations will present a 2015 drought briefing April 9 that will examine the impacts and responses to California’s fourth year of drought.

Titled  – “2015  Drought Briefing – Four Years and Counting: Impacts and Actions” – the briefing will examine the weather outlook for 2015 and the impacts that can be expected on water operations, the environment, fire response, agriculture and water conservation.

Governor Brown Announces Appointments to Water Commission

Gov. Jerry Brown on March 11 announced the reappointment of Jose Del Bosque to the California Water Commission as well as the new appointments of Paula Daniels and Maria Herrera. All of the positions require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.

 

ACWA Regions 5 and 6 Seek Candidates for Region Boards

ACWA Regions 5 and 6 are seeking candidates to fill vacancies on their region boards for the remainder of the 2014-2015 term. Those interested are encouraged to apply.

Senate Hearing Examines Injection Well Compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act

California state officials unveiled an aggressive timeline for reviewing and bringing the state’s injection wells into compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act during a joint legislative oversight hearing Tuesday at the state Capitol.

State Board Releases Updated Emergency Water Conservation Regulations

The State Water Resources Control Board on Friday released additional emergency water conservation regulations that, if adopted, would require some additional reporting requirements for urban water suppliers.

The State Board is scheduled to consider the package of proposed emergency regulations at its March 17 meeting. Comments on the proposed package are due Thursday, March 12.

The proposed new regulations are included in the package of existing emergency regulations that the board will consider extending another 270 days.

State Board Revises February Temporary Urgency Change Petition Order

The State Water Resources Control Board Thursday issued revisions to its Feb. 3 Temporary Urgency Change Order covering state and federal water project operations amid the continuing drought.

DWR Updates Schedule for Prop. 84 IRWM Solicitation

The Department of Water Resources this week announced that it has updated the schedule for the Proposition 84 2015 Integrated Regional Water Management Implementation Grant Program solicitation.

The updates show an accelerated timeline for the final Proposition 84 IRWM solicitation. The draft guidelines and proposal solicitation package will be released for public review and comment in mid-March. Public meetings will begin in mid-April. Announcement of final awards is set for mid-December.

Water year 2015 follows the record-dry three-year period of 2012-2014. Last year’s severely dry hydrology resulted in water allocation cutbacks to State Water Project and federal Central Valley Project contractors. As we approach the end of 2015’s rainy season hydrologic conditions are better than last year, but drought impacts remain.
