The Port of Redwood City is seeking public input on environmental analysis it is launching on a plan to dredge deeper channels, and transport the soils to several possible sites, including South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project ponds.

You can provide your thoughts on the scope and content of the Port’s environmental impact report by December 24, 2014. The Port will hold a public scoping meeting December 10, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Redwood City City Hall, City Council Chambers, 1017 Middlefield Rd., Redwood City, CA 94063. See the attachment for further details and contact information.

The South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project is considering accepting dredge soils from the Port at the Eden Landing ponds in order to build uplands as refuge habitat for marsh species during high tides; to create a possible “landmass” flood protection feature that could also serve as habitat; and to fill subsided ponds so salt marshes can be created in advance of sea level rise.

The Port of Redwood City’s environmental impact report (EIR) will cover transporting dredge soils to the Project ponds. If the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project chooses to pursue this path, the Eden Landing Phase 2 draft supplemental environmental impact report, expected to be released late next year (2015), would analyze the impacts of accepting and placing the dredge materials at the Eden Landing ponds.

Any options to accept dredge materials at Ravenswood or Alviso ponds, should we choose to accept them in the future, would also be analyzed in future environmental documents.
