ACWA eNews for Aug. 13, 2014

Legislature Expected to Vote on Water Bond

The Legislature was expected to vote on a $7.5 billion water bond Wednesday evening that would replace the current $11.14 bond slated for the November ballot.  By press time, that vote had not yet occurred.

ACWA Executive Director Timothy Quinn Issues Statement on Water Bond Proposal

ACWA Executive Director Timothy Quinn today issued the following statement on recent developments on a 2014 California Water Bond:

“ACWA applauds the recent progress on developing a smaller, more viable water bond for the November 2014 ballot.  As California experiences one of the worst droughts in its history, 2014 is clearly a year to commit to the implementation of a comprehensive water program to improve water supply and drought preparedness throughout the state.  The passage of a water bond in 2014 is fundamental to this goal.

State Water Board Opens Online Reporting Portal for Water Production Data for Aug. 15 deadline

The State Water Resources Control Board issued the following statement Aug. 11 that outlines the protocol for submitting water production data by Aug. 15 as required under new emergency regulations.

ACWA is prepared to provide its members with guidance throughout the process. Please contact Senior Regulatory Advocate Dave Bolland with any questions at  DaveB@acwa.com. Following is the text of an email sent out by the State Water Board which outlines the submittal process and deadlines:

Dear Urban Water Supplier;

Gov. Brown Signs Bill Extending Deadline for Placing New Water Bond on Ballot

Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday signed legislation that gives lawmakers more time to place a revised water bond on the November ballot.

The bill, SB 1195, by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, (D-Sacramento,) gives lawmakers until end of day Wednesday to pass a revised water bond and send it to the Secretary of State’s office for printing on the November voter pamphlet. Lawmakers originally had until Aug. 11 to do so.

Governor’s Drought Task Force to Meet with SF Area Officials

Members of Gov. Jerry Brown’s Interagency Drought Task Force will travel to San Francisco on Monday to meet with local government officials to learn about local efforts to respond to the drought.

Task force members will meet with officials from the cities and County of San Francisco, as well as officials from the counties of Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Alameda. Similar meetings have been held with other leaders in the Sacramento area, the North Coast, Central Coast, northern San Joaquin Valley, Tulare County and the Gold Country.
