Outdoor Water Restrictions Already in Place in Many Areas, ACWA Members Report

ACWA member agencies are in various stages of aligning their local conservation measures with new emergency regulations adopted July 15 by the State Water Resources Control Board.

The regulations prohibit certain outdoor water-wasting activities and require water agencies to implement mandatory outdoor water use restrictions as part of their water shortage contingency plans. The regulations also require water agencies to report monthly water production data and, beginning Oct. 15, provide an estimate of per capita water use each month in their service areas.

The PPIC fact sheet also explains that the current drought is exposing major water use challenges, including a failure to manage groundwater sustainably.

Among the findings of the fact sheet:

Bureau of Reclamation Releases New Hydrologic Projections for Contiguous United States
