Oakland Airport offering free rapid result COVID-19 Airport Testing Program
Expansion of program planned for Hawaii travelers beginning Oct. 15
Oakland, Calif. – Sept. 29, 2020: Oakland International Airport (OAK) said today it would begin to offer free, rapid-result COVID-19 tests to employees and the public beginning Oct. 6. The Airport said it’s working with CityHealth Urgent Care to make the tests available at its North Field terminal complex at 9070 Earhart Road. All OAK-based employees including tenant airlines, concessionaires, ground handling companies, etc. are eligible for testing. Additionally, the general public may be tested on a scheduled basis through CityHealth’s website https://bayareacovid19testing.com/.
Testing will be available by appointment daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to those presenting a current official OAK security credential. The testing is conducted by the expert clinicians of CityHealth and is HIPPA compliant. The results are shared on the spot or online via the CityHealth Urgent Care secure portal.
“The expansion of the airport testing program reflects our commitment to the health and well-being of both airport employees and OAK travelers,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Bryant L. Francis. “Thanks to this partnership with CityHealth Urgent Care, OAK employees – who interact with each other, airline customers and those at home – can come to work with greater peace of mind.”
The State of Hawaii Pre-Travel Testing Program is scheduled to begin on Oct. 15. Travelers who, upon entry into the state, provide written confirmation of a negative test result from a test administered to the traveler within 72 hours from the final leg of departure, will be exempt from the 14-day mandatory quarantine. Officials at CityHealth and the Port of Oakland invite those planning travel to the Hawaiian Islands under the program to use the planned in-terminal testing facility, if needed, in order to meet the State of Hawaii requirement. Day of departure testing will also be available for those not able to do so in advance.
CityHealth and Oakland International Airport will offer pre-travel testing to Hawaii travelers at no out-of-pocket cost making it unique from other programs charging as much as $250 per person. “The Port of Oakland is everyone’s Port and OAK has been the people’s airport since 1927. For us, there is no disparity among those needing to be tested – whether going to work, school, returning home or visiting the Hawaiian Islands. That is the East Bay Way”, said Mr. Bryant. “We’re proud to partner with CityHealth to offer this service to airport employees, travelers and the general public with no out-of-pocket cost.”
Specific details about the Oct. 15 Hawaii Pre-Travel testing program at OAK will be released separately.
