Government Affairs Committee w/Asm. Mullin
Thursday, July 25, 10:00 am -11:00 am
Briscoe Ivester & Bazel LLP
155 Sansom St, 7th Floor, San Francisco, CA

Please join us for our next Government Affairs Committee meeting as we host special guest Assemblymember Kevin Mullin (D-South San Francisco).

Asm. Mullin will be joining us to provide an update following the state audit of the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), which he initiated last year. The audit, released last May, revealed that the agency has “neglected its responsibility to protect to the San Francisco Bay,” as mismanagement and lack of resources resulted in slow and inefficient enforcement processes. The Assemblymember will discuss next steps and opportunities to improve the enforcement and permitting practices of the agency that governs the San Francisco Bay and shoreline.

Asm. Mullin will also brief us on AB 825, legislation he authored to create the San Mateo County Flood and Sea Level Rise Resiliency District, which would change the county flood control district to incorporate sea level rise resiliency efforts, and change the governing and funding structure of the existing district to become a separate agency. San Mateo County, which is bordered by water on two sides, is highly vulnerable to sea level rise, and this district will help the county address numerous impacts of climate change.

Asm. Mullin was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2012, representing the 22nd District in San Mateo County. On December 3, 2018 he was sworn in as Assembly Speaker pro Tem for the 2016-17 legislative session. As the #2 officer in the Assembly, he continues his role as part of Speaker Anthony Rendon’s leadership team and presides regularly over Assembly floor sessions. Some of his legislative priorities focus on transportation infrastructure and congestion relief, affordable housing, economic opportunity for all, maintaining a balanced budget with a healthy rainy day fund, clean tech and nurturing our innovation economy as Chair of the Select Committee on Biotechnology and as a member of the Tech Caucus.

Members Only. Space is limited, please RSVP.
