BIA|Bay Area’s Plan Bay Area Housing & Jobs Tally as of November 2015

BIA|Bay Area’s Plan Bay Area Housing & Jobs Tally as of November 2015

Five years into the 30-year Plan Bay Area planning period, the San Francisco Bay Area remains woefully behind when it comes to providing adequate housing for its tens of thousands of new workers. As of November 2015, the Bay Area had permitted 1 new housing unit for every 6.3 new jobs. Under Plan Bay Area projections, the region needs to add 1 housing unit for every 1.7 new jobs in order to keep pace with employment growth.

Please find below a chart that illustrates the housing-jobs gap in several ways. BIA|Bay Area prepares the chart each month to help document the region’s ongoing failure to house its residents. If you have questions about the chart, please don’t hesitate to contact Lisa Vorderbrueggen at 925-348-1956 or lvorderbrueggen@biabayarea.org.
