Ann Notarangelo is New External Relations Manager for Shell Martinez

Shell Welcomes Ann Notarangelo to Lead Martinez External Relations Department

Emmy winning news anchor and county leader will oversee outreach programs, advocacy, and community partnerships

MARTINEZ- Shell Martinez is proud to welcome Ann Notarangelo as our new Manager of External Relations for the facility.  A lifelong resident of Contra Costa County, Ann is best known for her Emmy winning broadcast career and 14-year tenure at KPIX (CBS-San Francisco).  While at KPIX, Ann was a prominent fixture as the Weekend Anchor and has anchored all of the station’s newscasts.  She was voted “Best in the East Bay” by the readers of Diablo Magazine. Her other journalism credits include working for CNN in Washington, D.C., where she covered two presidential inaugurations and was a producer for “Inside Politics” with Bernie Shaw.

Most recently, Ann served as Community Relations Director for Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services.  While at the agency, she was a member of EHSD Leadership Team and worked with the Board of Supervisors and other county staff to improve stakeholder relations and service delivery. She also oversaw employee engagement efforts for the county.

“We are very excited to welcome Ann to the Shell Family,” said Shell Martinez General Manager Tom Rizzo.  “This is an important position for us because our relationship with the community is so critical to our license to operate.  Ann is the quintessential ‘people person,’ and the care she has for her fellow employees everywhere she has worked came through strongly in this process. She has the ability not simply to help tell our story, but to bring the outside-in and ensure we put the community’s interest at the center of the decisions we make.  As a resident of Martinez myself, I am very pleased to have Ann as a part of my Leadership Team.”

“I’m honored to join the Shell team,” said Ann.  “When I was approached about this position, I knew it was a rare and exciting opportunity.  My time spent working as a reporter in the East Bay made me aware of Shell’s uniquely positive relationship with our community.  From its environmental philosophy to the way it treats its neighbors, everyone I have talked with acknowledges Shell is a company that does things the right way.”

In her new position, Ann will oversee the External Relations department at the refinery, social investment, stakeholder engagement, and local government and media relations. The position was previously held by Steve Lesher, who is now serving in a regional External Relations position for Shell.  Said Steve of Ann: “I could not be more thrilled that Ann is coming to work with us.  Like me, Ann is a Contra Costa native who cares deeply about the area.  She is going to be an outstanding representative for the facility and for the community whose well-being needs to be at the forefront of all major decisions. I have every confidence that Ann will take us to a whole new level in this area.”

In addition to her professional work, Ann is very active with the East Bay’s non-profit community.  She volunteers her time for many organizations such as Shelter Inc. and the Contra Costa Women’s Commission, where she was a speaker at the recent Women’s Hall of Fame dinner.  She also serves as emcee and moderator for the East Bay Leadership Council’s annual East Bay USA dinner program, the premier business and policy event in the region.  In this role, she has hosted conversations and moderated debates with the likes of Bob Woodward, Karl Rove, Howard Dean and Nina Totenberg.

Ann has a degree in Political Science from UCLA and lives in Contra Costa County with her husband and their two daughters.
