Tote Takes Delivery of Its First LNG Ship
Tote Maritime took delivery last week of Isla Bella, the world’s first LNG-fueled container ship, from GS Nassco in San Diego. Isla Bella, built according to a Korean design and ABS-classed with MAN Diesel & Turbo LNG-diesel dual fuel main engine and auxiliaries, will connect Florida and Puerto Rico.
Harvey Deploys Second LNG Ship for Shell
Harvey Gulf International Marine took delivery last week of Harvey Power, its second liquefied natural gas-fueled ship, for service with Shell. Harvey Power follows Harvey Energy, the first-ever U.S. flag vessel to be powered by LNG, which entered service with Shell earlier this year.
Tote Postpones Midnight Sun LNG Upfit 
Tote Maritime is pushing back conversion of its Midnight Sun container ship to LNG by a year in the wake of the operator’s loss of the El Faro in hurricane Joaquin early this month. Midnight Sun was to have been fitted with new Wärtsilä dual fuel engines and LNGPac fuel system by Keppel Offshore & Marine in Singapore this coming winter.

With only a few days left to register for the 2015 High Horsepower Summit, show organizers have released the full line-up of speakers for the end-of-month event oat the Kay Bailey Hutchison. Come hear experts from the marine, rail, mining, drilling, pressure-pumping and power generation industries discuss real-world natural gas projects that are facilitating a significant reduction in fuels costs and emissions. The HHP Summit takes place October 27-29 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.
Wessels to Convert First Box Ship to LNG
Germany’s Wessels Reederei is planning to convert its 498-foot Wes Amelie container vessel to liquefied natural gas-diesel dual fuel operation, ‘making the ship the first of its kind worldwide to be converted to an LNG propulsion system.’
MARAD Backs Ohio River Towboat LNG
The federal Maritime Administration is anteing $730,000 toward the ‘cutting edge’ conversion of an Ohio River towboat to LNG operation. MARAD is providing the money for the two-year program via PRCC, the Department of Energy-affiliated Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities organization.
Coast Guard Issues Isla Bella Certificate
The U.S. Coast Guard has joined in the maritime history surrounding Isla Bella, the LNG-fueled container ship delivered last week to Tote Maritime at the GD Nassco yard in San Diego. Coast Guard Sector San Diego issued a Certificate of Inspection this past Saturday and the ship departed for the Caribbean yesterday.
Cat Talks Up Gtuit Flare Gas Recovery
Caterpillar Oil & Gas says it accepted an award of excellence from the World Bank Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR) on behalf of Hess and Gtuit, a manufacturer of mobile gas treatment systems, in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, last month.
Deltamarin Details LNG Bulk Carrier Work
Partners including Deltamarin, Arista Shipping, ABS and GTT are cooperating ‘to equip the dry bulk carriers of the future with LNG propulsion.’ They are developing designs for newbuilds and retrofits alike. Athens-based Arista is the project leader.
XNG Broadens Its Industrial CNG Reach
Xpress Natural Gas, which provides compressed natural gas to industrial customers in New England and New York State – delivering the fuel via tube trailers towed by CNG-powered tractors – is moving ahead with its expansion to Washington State and is setting up a similar network based in Appomattox, Va.
