CEQA Working Group Delivers Letter Opposing SB 32

Today the CEQA Working Group delivered a letter opposing SB 32 (D-Pavley).

The concern of the 32 groups that signed on to the letter are summed up in the passage below:

To be clear, the CEQA Working Group is not opposed to efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, we have grave concerns that SB 32’s statutory mandate of an 80% reduction in GHG emissions by 2050 means that – the day the bill is enacted – every new project in California that has to undergo an environmental review process could have to prove how each project will meet or mitigate to an 80% 2050 reduction target.  In terms of CEQA, that standard creates an enormous new hook for lawsuits and project appeals.”

SB 32 has passed the Senate and is a major piece of legislation pending before the legislature adjourns for the year. You can read the full letter here. If you were unable to sign on to the letter in time, please feel free to use our language to create your own letter to Senator Pavley and the Assembly.
