Integral Consulting Inc. welcomes Kenneth Jenkins, Ph.D., and Brenda Sanders, Ph.D., as principals with Integral’s Ecology practice. Both have more than 30 years of experience in environmental and ecological toxicology, including ecological risk assessments, natural resource damage assessments, ecosystem services, and litigation support.

“Ken and Brenda bring a wealth of technical knowledge and project experience that will further strengthen our capabilities for a range of clients,” said Integral’s President Bill Locke, P.E. “We are looking forward to the leadership, technical contributions, and new opportunities both will bring to Integral.”

Dr. Jenkins has designed and implemented numerous cooperative and litigation-driven natural resource damage assessments, ecological risk assessments, and water and sediment quality evaluations. He has been assisting clients with large and complex sites, including offshore and estuarine systems in the Gulf of Mexico; large river systems in the Northeast, Great Lakes, and Northwest; coastal estuaries throughout the country; and offshore environments in the Southern California Bight.

With a strong background working with regulatory agencies, Dr. Jenkins has testified before Congress and briefed house and congressional staff on technical issues relating to natural resource damages. He has also served as a member of the Science Advisory Board of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Research Council Panel on the Fate and Effects of Drilling Fluids, and he was the chair of the State of Colorado task force to develop revised water quality standards for the state. He has authored more than 100 scientific papers, book chapters, and technical reports.

Dr. Jenkins holds a B.A. in biology from California State University, Northridge and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and the American Chemical Society.

Dr. Brenda Sanders has more than 30 years of experience in environmental sciences, ecotoxicology, sediment management, and stress biology in academia and as a consultant to private clients in the oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, and chemical sectors. Her technical expertise focuses on the mechanisms of toxicity, trace metals, and xenobiotics on wildlife, including benthic invertebrates, fishes, birds, and mammals. She has directed field and laboratory programs to develop methods for biological monitoring and to evaluate the biological effects of contaminants. She also provides litigation support, strategic planning, scientific critique, and expert testimony for potentially responsible parties on ecological risk and natural resource damage issues.

Dr. Sanders has served on federal and state panels and committees, including an appointment by the U.S. Department of State to the North Pacific Marine Science Organization, an international organization focused on increasing knowledge and management of ecological resources in the North Pacific. She has served as editor or reviewer for numerous environmental toxicology, physiology, and cellular biology journals.

Dr. Sanders holds a B.A. in biology and earth and environmental science from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and a Ph.D. in marine studies from the College of Marine Studies at the University of Delaware. She is a member of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and served on the society’s national board of directors.

Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Sanders will be practicing on the west coast and nationwide out of Integral’s Petaluma, California, office at 14 Keller Street. They can be reached at
