How can we get more people involved in transportation policies and investment choices? What are the best ways to encourage Bay Area residents to participate in planning for the region’s future? The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) – the  Bay Area’s transportation planning and financing agency – is updating its Public Participation Plan and seeks your advice. Share your ideas in person or online:

  • Attend a workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the MetroCenter Auditorium, located in the Joseph P. Bort MetroCenter, 101 Eighth Street, Oakland, across from the Lake Merritt BART station.
  • Comment and read what others are suggesting via Plan Bay Area Open Forum, athttp://onebayarea.org/misc/open-forum.html.  Email your comments toinfo@mtc.ca.gov or via U.S. mail to MTC Public Information, 101 8th Street, Oakland, CA 94607.

MTC’s Public Participation Plan (PPP) highlights opportunities for Bay Area residents to comment on the agency’s key plans and programs. The current version was adopted in 2010 to satisfy state and federal requirements for a transparent and inclusive public process.

An updated PPP – to be released in draft form for public comment in November – will highlight planning and decision milestones, along with public engagement opportunities, for the next update to Plan Bay Area – the region’s long-range transportation and land-use blueprint that MTC adopts with the Association of Bay Area Governments. MTC is slated to adopt an updated PPP in early 2015.
