Please join us on September 18 for the debut of “Plastic Planet” in conjunction with a celebration of the 30th anniversary of California Coastal Cleanup Day, and a deep dive into the issue of marine debris and ocean plastic pollution.
This short film highlights key aspects of the marine debris problem, and everyday actions we can all take to be part of the solution to plastic pollution. “Plastic Planet” also features insights from the voyages of 5 Gyres Institute.
Anna Cummins, 5 Gyres Executive Director joins us in person and Research Director Marcus Eriksen, will joins us via satellite communication from the South Pacific. Discuss includes preliminary results from the recent 5 Gyres Viking Gyre Expedition across the North Atlantic Gyre. The extent of the global issue of plastic pollution will be discussed, along with recent 5 Gyres Campaigns that encourage solutions.
Program highlights also include the work of SeaDoc Society’s California Lost Fishing Gear Recovery Project – one important aspect of a global issue.
“Plastic Planet” was created as part of a project generously funded by Covanta and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation through the Fishing for Energy Program, Aquarium of the Bay and Truth Be Told Creative.
