Notice of Final Treasure Island Naval Station Historical Radiological Assessment Supplemental Technical Memorandum
NS Treasure Island —  The U.S. Navy has issued the Final Historical Radiological Assessment – Supplemental Technical Memorandum for Former Naval Station Treasure Island (NSTI).  This final document is the culmination of two years of research, interviews and various radiological investigations; the Final Supplemental Technical  Memorandum updates the original Historical Radiological Assessment for the base that was finalized in 2006.  The document defines all the areas of NSTI that require further investigation because there is a potential that low-level residual radioisotopes may be present; this does not mean that “rad” is necessarily present on the site, but that research and further studies have identified areas worthy of further investigation. The Navy has worked closely with the State of California regulators prior to releasing this final document.
The Navy summarized the new findings  within this document at the June 25, 2014 meeting of the Former Naval Station Treasure Island Restoration Advisory Board.  Copies of the document are also available for viewing at the Information Repositories located on Treasure Island and at the San Francisco Main Library Science, Technical, and Government Documents Room.
