Please find attached some information about an excursion to Niagara Falls and a continuing education short course to be held in association with the upcoming DREDGING SUMMIT & EXPO 2014, June 15 through 18 in Toronto, Canada. In addition, the Embassy of Brazil invites WEDA members to participate in Discussion/Meeting on their National Dredging Program on April 4, 2014 in Washington, DC. Additional information on this meeting can be found on the bottom of this message and the attached invitation.

A.) DREDGING SUMMIT & EXPO 2014

Niagara Falls Tour Summary:
The excursion will take you and your guests to the Niagara Falls, and will include a cruise, a lunch and a visit to a winery.  You can find more information about that program in the attached flyer. The deadline to register is May 15.

Short Course Summary:
The short course “RESPONSIBLE DESIGN OF DREDGING PROJECTS” will earn you 4 CEU credits, and will be a perfect primer to learn about or brush up on knowledge to conduct dredging projects in a smart and responsible manner. It will be taught by professors from two universities with renowned dredging programs,  as well as a resource from the private dredging industry. Please note that early registration deadline is May 15, so to assist us in our planning and to save yourself some money, please sign up before May 15.

Both these activities are scheduled for Sunday June 15 and will be held or depart from the conference hotel, and both will finish or return prior to the DREDGING SUMMIT & EXPO’s icebreaker reception to be held from 7 to 10 pm on Sunday June 15, also in the conference hotel.

B.) Meeting on Brazilian Ports and Dredging:

As some of you may know, last year, Michael Gerhardt (DCA) had arranged, on behalf of the WEDA Eastern Chapter, a discussion on “Doing Business in Latin America: Port Infrastructure Development and Dredging Opportunities” at the Eastern Chapter meeting.  As a follow up to that, the Brazilian Ministry is now inviting U.S. dredging contractors, consultants, engineers, academics, port users/investors and other related parties, to attend a discussion on their 2nd National Dredging Program at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 4th at 9:30 am. (See attached invitation). The session will be led by Brazil’s Minister of Ports, Antonio Henrique Pinheiro Silveira.  Other government officials and stakeholders are expected to attend as well to discuss: (a) New regulatory framework for Brazilian ports (which opens the door to private investment), and (b) Brazil’s upcoming dredging program.

This is a great opportunity to learn first-hand about Brazil’s dredging needs, and I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.  Please RSVP to Luciana Rocha-Goldman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (lgoldman@uschamber.com) if you intend to attend, and please copy me (rmohan@anchorqea.com) and Michael Gerhardt (michaelgerhardt@dredgingcontractors.org) as well.
