Drought Declaration Could Happen in February, DWR Director Says

 

Federal, state and local water officials briefed the California State Board of Food and Agriculture today on the ongoing impacts of last year’s record-dry conditions and how transfers might help the state cope with its bleak water outlook.

2014 Legislative Year Begins in Sacramento

 

Lawmakers returned to the state Capitol on Monday to begin the second year of the 2013-’14 legislative session.

Reclamation Cuts American River Flows

 

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced Monday, Jan. 6, it will significantly reduce flows in the lower American River to conserve the remaining water supply in Folsom Reservoir.

First Snowpack Survey of 2014 Confirms Low Water Content in Sierra

 

The Department of Water Resources’ first manual snow survey of the season on Friday, Jan. 3, recorded predictably dismal results: the Sierra snowpack in California is about 20% of normal for the date.

The program’s primary goal is to collect groundwater elevations for all of California’s 515 basins and compile that data in an online system.
