USDA Designates California a Drought Disaster Area

Nearly all farmers and ranchers in California are now eligible to apply for low-interest emergency loans because the U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared the state a drought disaster area.

Agricultural operators in all California counties except for San Francisco can now apply for USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. The maximum loan amount is $500,000.  For application deadlines and to locate an FSA office, go to www.usda.gov/ca.

AB 145 (Perea) would move the entire state drinking water program from the Department of Public Health to the State Water Resources Control Board.

Throughout the year, ACWA and its coalition partner have suggested amendments that would allow the association to remove its opposition. The author has not opted to accept the amendments.
