CASA Achievement Award Deadline Rapidly Approaching!

Want to showcase your agency’s innovative service, program or project? Your agency can obtain statewide recognition by applying for a CASA Achievement Award. But don’t delay because Friday, June 14, 2013 is the deadline to submit an application for consideration of a 2013 CASA Achievement Award. In our ongoing effort to “go green” and streamline the application process, CASA is accepting electronic/digital applications. Please submit your application to awards@casaweb.org no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013.

Looming Deadline Marks Halfway Point for 2013 Legislative Session

Friday, May 31 is the final deadline for bills to be passed out of their House of Origin and sent to the opposite house for consideration. As such, both the Senate and Assembly have been holding all-day floor sessions every day this week, passing hundreds of measures each day. Several measures of interest to CASA members have successfully passed their houses during the first half of session, while others have died for the year for a variety of reasons. CASA Announces First Annual State Legislative & Public Policy Forum

More details to follow but mark your calendars for April 28-29, 2014 and plan to attend CASA’s first state legislative event. CASA’s Executive Board approved the new event in the continued pursuit of CASA’s strategic goal to ensure “Good laws, balanced regulations and well-informed legislators and regulatory bodies.” The state legislative event will mirror in many ways CASA’s successful Washington, DC Conference. CASA has been able to build strong relationships in the nation’s Capital which has allowed us to introduce proactive legislation on behalf of our members. Our goal is to duplicate those strong relationships between CASA members and decision-makers in Sacramento. Read more.

 

 

CASA Continues to Participate in SB 1122 Proceeding, Advocates for Increased Development of Bioenergy from Wastewater Treatment Facilities

CASA representatives continue to participate in the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) proceeding to implement SB 1122, a bill that created a 250 Megawatt (MW) bioenergy carve-out for the state’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program. This bill (and now, the CPUC proceeding) would require the electrical utilities to purchase a specified amount of bioenergy from certain sources, one of which is wastewater treatment facilities that produce biogas through anaerobic digestion processes. State Water Resources Control Board Releases New “Ex Parte” Communication Questions and Answers Document

The State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) recently released an updated document on ex parte communications designed to clarify the rules governing communications between state and regional water board members and individuals/parties interested in various proceedings. CASA Engages NGOs and State Water Resources Control Board Staff on Resource Alignment Proposals

CASA continues to engage in productive discussions with State Water Board members and staff as well as interested non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders on proposals to reduce the cost of compliance with regulatory requirements for POTWs across the state. CASA submitted an initial series of ideas in February, and a revised set of proposals in on May 21, 2013. Read full article.

  

 

CWCCG Announces New Program Manager

The Steering Committee for the California Wastewater Climate Change Group (CWCCG) announced the selection of Sarah Deslauriers of Carollo Engineers as the new Program Manager. Deslauriers will be supported by an excellent team at Carollo. Sarah brings a wealth of experience and excitement to the position and CWCCG is looking forward to a great proactive and productive relationship with Sarah and her team. The Steering Committee evaluated responses to their RFP and interviewed three very capable and qualified candidate teams on March 26, 2013. Carollo was selected for the job. Sarah will work closely with CASA and our new energy workgroup to ensure seamless efforts on related issues. Please join us in welcoming Sarah and her team to CWCCG!

  

 

California Air Resources Board

California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) released a joint report on May 15, 2013 providing recommendations to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on health-based standards for biomethane injected into the common carrier pipeline pursuant to Assembly Bill (AB) 1900.
