Press Release: Alexis Strauss Selected to Receive 2013 Frank Boerger Award

The Bay Planning Coalition (BPC) is pleased to announce that  Alexis Strauss, Deputy Regional Administrator of US Environmental Protection Agency’s Pacific Southwest Regional Office, is the recipient of the 2013 Frank C. Boerger Award. 

BPC presents the Frank C. Boerger Award (Award) to an individual who appreciates the rigors of advocating environmental protection and economic progress, and forges the path to achieve both.  The award recipient is a person who is passionate in her convictions, balanced in her judgment, and talented in bringing diverse interests and stakeholders together to address the issues of environment and development.

Ms. Strauss is the second in command at the Environmental Protection Agency’s Pacific Southwest Regional Office, overseeing Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, 148 Tribal governments, and 3 Pacific Island Territories.  She served as EPA’s Water Division Director from l994 to 2012, and in years prior, worked in the Superfund and RCRA programs.  John Coleman, Executive Director of the Bay Planning Coalition, said “I have worked with Alexis a great deal over the years, and find her to be committed to protecting the environment while also trying to find a balance with the impacts to the economy.” 

“I’m honored to receive this prestigious award recognizing the important link between a healthy San Francisco Bay and a vibrant economy,” said Ms. Strauss.  “With its partners, EPA will work to ensure that this exquisite resource is restored and protected.” 

Past recipients of the Award include; Michael Cheney, Loretta Barsamian, Omar Benjamin, Barbara Kaufman, Sunne Wright McPeak, Robert Tufts, John Briscoe, Bill Britt, Jim Levine, Angelo Siracusa, John Dustin, Ellen Johnck, Will Travis and Congressman John Garamendi.
