Gov. Brown: Don’t give up on environmental-law reform

“The California Environmental Quality Act was barely four years old when Jerry Brown assumed his first tour of duty in the governor’s office. Today, CEQA has been widely — and justly credited — for its great contribution to preserving California’s natural resources and its quality of life. But there are problems with the law — and no one knows that better than Brown, who as mayor of Oakland went to the California Legislature to exempt swaths of downtown from CEQA lawsuits when he was pushing to bring residents and vitality to a long-neglected area.”
