Tall Ships Return to Port for Educational Programs and Public Visits
Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain plan their annual visit to the Port of Redwood City from March 7-19 and they’ll offer public tours, sailing excursions, and educational programs for K-12 students and service groups. Here’s the ships’ public schedule:
3/8: Walk-on tours, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
3/9-10: Walk-on tours, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
3/9-10: Battle Sails, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., $40-$60.
3/10: Adventure Sail (Lady Washington only), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. $39 all ages.
3/12-15: Walk-on tours, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
3/16-17: Walk-on tours, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
3/16: Battle Sail, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., $40-$60.
Walk-on tours are a chance to explore the vessels at the dock and speak with the crews. A $3 donation per person is appreciated. A reservation is not required.
Three-hour Battle Sails are recreations of a typical 18th-century style naval skirmish close quarters maneuvers using the same commands and tactics of American warships of the Revolutionary War. Tickets are $60 adults, $50 students/seniors/active military, and $40 children 12 and under. Purchases of eight or more tickets earn a 15 percent discount on the price per ticket. The Adventure Sail is a two-hour family-oriented educational excursion offering an opportunity for guests to help raise a sail, sing a sea shanty, hear maritime stories, and take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting.
