Celebrating Work That Matters, Engineering News Record Awards Best Projects in 2012

Congratulations San Francisco County Transportation Authority, California Department of Transportation, City of Stockton, Sacramento County Airport System, and the many people who’ve contributed to the success of these projects.

ESA is proud to have been a long-term partner providing comprehensive environmental services for several of Engineering News Record’s Best 2012 projects. This competition recognizes the region’s best achievements in construction and design. The winners are featured in the December issue of ENR California and were honored yesterday at the annual Best Projects breakfast at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Best Transportation Project

Congratulations San Francisco County Transportation Authority and California Department of Transportation on the Doyle Drive Contract 3!

The Doyle Drive replacement features a parkway design, two short tunnels, and enhanced pedestrian access and traffic calming transitions in a national park setting. The $83.8 million contract 3 includes the construction of a permanent roadway section, the southbound Presidio Viaduct Bridge, the southern Park Presidio interchange, and the Ruckman Undercrossing. ESA prepared environmental permit documentation, monitored construction activities and documented compliance with regulatory permit and CEQA/NEPA mitigation commitments, including the avoidance and minimization of wetland impacts, noise and construction activity effects on breeding birds and bird use of nearby Crissy Marsh, and the presence of bats in trees, roadway structures and buildings that were removed as part of the project. Congratulations San Francisco County Transportation Authority, California Department of Transportation and the Project Team!

Best Civil Works/Infrastructure Project Award of Merit

Congratulations City of Stockton on the Delta Water Supply Project!

The Delta Water Supply Project provides a new supplemental high quality water supply for the Stockton Metropolitan Area. The finished project replaces declining surface water resources, protects groundwater supplies, and provides for current and future water needs and improved drought reliability. The design/build 30 mgd water treatment plant uses state of the art processes to ensure high quality drinking water and is designed to meet LEED Silver standards. ESA supported the City of Stockton by completing a feasibility assessment and an environmental impact report, developing and implementing the mitigation, monitoring and reporting program which included providing construction monitoring, and providing permitting support and regulatory strategy for the construction and operation of the new water treatment plant, treated and raw water pipelines and an intake in the Delta on the San Joaquin River. The ESA team worked closely with City staff to address project- and program-level impacts, from project conception to completion. Congratulations City of Stockton and the project team!

Best Transportation Project Award of Merit

Congratulations Sacramento County Airport System on the Big Build Project!

Sacramento County’s largest construction project to date, the Sacramento International Airport 1.1 billion-dollar “Big Build” embarked on an aggressive construction schedule hinging on expert support to coordinate the mitigation, permitting, and agency coordination. From protecting sensitive habitats to stormwater compliance, ESA provided on-the-ground solutions to keep this premier project on track. ESA coordinated environmental planning and permitting efforts with more than nine local and federal agencies and provided on-call expertise related to habitat management, air quality monitoring, dewatering permits, and preconstruction surveys. Congratulations Sacramento County Airport System and the project team!
