Legislature Set to Vote on Pension Reform Package

After months of hearings and recent behind-the-scenes negotiations between top Democrats and the Governor’s office, a major pension reform proposal emerged yesterday. Following a press conference in Los Angeles in which Governor Brown announced that a pension deal had been reached, his office issued a statement announcing the pension reform agreement, to be known as the “Public Employee Pension Reform Act of 2012.” Last night the six-person joint Conference Committee on Public Employee Pensions, consisting of Democratic co-chairs Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod and Assemblymember Warren Furutani, along with Democrats Senator Joe Simitian and Assemblymember Michael Allen, and Republican members Senator Mimi Walters and Assemblymember Jim Silva, convened to hear the proposal and vote to send it the Senate and Assembly Floors for their consideration. >>> Continue Reading
