Good afternoon,

On behalf of the President of the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners, Pamela Calloway, and the Port’s Executive Director, Omar Benjamin, I want to thank you for your support of the efforts to modernize the transform the former Oakland Army Base (OAB) into a thriving trade and logistics center which delivers jobs and economic benefits for the region.  As we had previously announced, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will be visiting the Port of Oakland to announce a $15 million federal TIGER (Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery) grant for the Port of Oakland’s Phase I Rail Improvement Project, one of only 47 projects selected nationwide under this competitive grant program and the largest Port project to be included.

While the Secretary’s previously-scheduled visit had to be postponed due to the successful passage of the federal transportation bill, we would like to invite you to attend a formal grant announcement with Secretary LaHood on Monday, July 9th at 1:15 pm at the Port’s headquarters at 530 Water Street to celebrate this good news.

Thank you again for your continued support and please let me know if you will be able to attend on Monday!

Matt
